How the three-roller powder surface coating machine achieves uniform modification

Ultrafine mineral powder is fed into the machine at a precisely controlled rate through a screw conveyor, ensuring stable and continuous material flow into the modification chamber.
Inside the modification chamber, three rotating rollers operating at high speed create a powerful vortex. The powder particles are fully fluidized and dispersed, maximizing the contact surface area between each particle and the coating agent.
The modifier (typically stearic acid or a coupling agent) is atomized and uniformly sprayed into the vortex through a precision metering pump. The high-temperature environment inside the chamber (generated by friction) ensures the coating agent melts and bonds effectively to each particle surface.
Once the coating process is complete, the modified powder exits the chamber and passes through a cooling system before collection. The final product demonstrates excellent hydrophobicity, dispersibility, and compatibility with polymer matrices.
Key advantages that set our stone powder coating machines apart
Three-roller vortex fluidization ensures every powder particle receives uniform coating treatment, achieving activation rates consistently above 99%.
Friction-generated heat eliminates the need for external heating, reducing energy consumption by up to 40% compared to conventional modification equipment.
Unlike batch-type machines, our continuous feeding and discharging system supports 24/7 uninterrupted production, significantly boosting throughput.
Fully automated PLC control system with real-time monitoring of temperature, feeding speed, modifier dosage, and rotor RPM for consistent product quality.
Critical components are made from high-chromium wear-resistant alloy steel with advanced heat treatment, ensuring extended service life even under heavy-duty operation.
Fully enclosed negative-pressure operation with integrated dust collection prevents powder leakage, meeting the strictest environmental regulations.
Modular design with quick-access panels allows rapid inspection and replacement of wear parts, minimizing production downtime.
Suitable for powders from 325 mesh to 3000 mesh (D97: 5-45 um), covering everything from standard GCC to ultrafine nanometer-grade powders.

Common questions about our stone powder coating machines
A stone powder coating machine (also known as a powder surface modification machine or three-roller modifier) is specialized equipment used to apply a surface treatment agent (typically stearic acid, titanate coupling agent, or aluminate coupling agent) onto ultrafine mineral powder particles. The machine uses a high-speed three-roller vortex mechanism to fluidize the powder, then atomizes the modifier into the chamber. Friction-generated heat melts the coating agent, which bonds uniformly to each particle surface, transforming hydrophilic mineral powder into hydrophobic, organophilic material suitable for polymer compounding.
Our coating machine is suitable for a wide range of non-metallic mineral powders including: calcium carbonate (GCC and PCC), calcite, talc, barite, kaolin, wollastonite, dolomite, mica, silica/quartz, barium sulfate, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and other inorganic fillers. The particle size range is 325 mesh to 3000 mesh.
Cronus three-roller coating machines consistently achieve an activation rate of over 99%, as verified by the standard methanol flotation test. The unique vortex fluidization design ensures that virtually every powder particle receives uniform coating treatment without dead zones or untreated clusters.
The three high-speed rollers compress and shear the powder particles at high velocity, generating frictional heat that raises the internal temperature to 100-140 C naturally. This temperature is precisely the melting range of stearic acid (commonly used modifier), allowing it to melt and coat particles without any external heating element. This eliminates electrical heating costs and reduces energy consumption by approximately 40%.
For calcium carbonate modification with stearic acid, the typical dosage is 0.8-1.5% by weight of the powder being processed. The exact dosage depends on particle size (finer powder requires slightly more modifier) and target application requirements. Our PLC control system allows precise metering to optimize modifier usage and minimize costs.
